Devotion to Medieval Scholarship
Quill & Quire is a distinguished undergraduate journal that serves as a dedicated platform for college students passionate about Medieval Studies. Our mission is to foster and establish a supportive community for undergraduates interested in delving into the vast realms of the medieval world. The journal takes pride in its commitment to inclusivity, welcoming students from all backgrounds and affiliations.
Published on a semesterly basis, Quill & Quire showcases the diverse interests and talents of undergraduate contributors. Our focus spans across all fields within the medieval domain, encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to explore and expand the breadth of the subject matter.
Quill & Quire operates independently of any academic institution, providing an equal opportunity for all students to contribute. We do not impose restrictions based on page numbers or formats but rather collaborate with authors to enhance and develop their projects. While a 'page range' of 4-25 in Chicago format is recommended, it is not mandatory, and submissions exceeding these parameters may receive editing suggestions to prepare them for publication.

Our Story
Our story at Quill & Quire began with a shared passion for Medieval Studies and a vision to create an inclusive and scholarly space for undergraduate enthusiasts. Founded by Gabrielle Ashby, a third-year student, and Niamh Kierans, a first-year student, at the University of Virginia, Quill & Quire emerged as a testament to their commitment to fostering a vibrant community of medievalists at the undergraduate level. Motivated by a desire to provide a platform for students to showcase their academic endeavors and contribute to the broader discourse in Medieval Studies, Gabrielle and Niamh embarked on this journey to establish a space that transcends academic hierarchies and welcomes all with a shared love for the medieval world. Through Quill & Quire, they aspire to bridge gaps, inspire collaboration, and create lasting connections within the undergraduate medievalist community.
